The God Complex: Quiting Your Double Life
I should have wrote this toward the start of me blogging. To preface it all. But can we stop the God complex? Can we stop using scripture or God as our scapegoat or cop out?
When I entered the counselor’s office the first time, he asked me a bunch of questions; being the double-minded man I was I knew how to pull out my God card (the charmer identity). He didn’t buy it. He saw right through it. He also gave me permission to stop being the imposter I was and to this day I’m thankful for that.
So many men (need I even say pastors in the pulpit) have this complex. They feel the need to spriritualize certain areas of their life. Acting or speaking as if “Cloud 9” exists, but in reality the world is crumbling down around them and they’ll never allow you to see the “real me.” It’s almost equivalent to church leadership not discussing at all the C19 issues we had over the course of three years. Everyone came back to worship and its as if nothing at all happened. But instead we should be talking about mental illness issues the congregation has faced through this tryannical season. But that’s another topic for another time.
If you are like I was; perhaps raised in the church…the God complex is usually their by default. And it’s going to take you time to strip that part away. If this is you, you have carried the concept of “be not of world, but be in the world”, but then you are too blind to see you’re own compartmentalization. You are walking in the church acting holy, but then sleeping with a woman while your married, or addicted to porn, or what have you. Being not of the world and being in the world are two different things. It’s also another thing to live a life of integrity and freedom.
I wish I didn’t have to tell you this, but statistics show that over half of men in the church are dabbling in some sort of adultery. That’s HUGE! That means when you are at church and you take a look around; half the men in your congregation are acting out and cheating in some capacity. Now…if we could all come to terms that this needs addressed in the church, I’m all for that! But the church is quiet. We act like sheep when our Leader is a roaring Lion - that’s King Jesus by the way.
While I cannot change the way you’re outlook on life is, I sure can assist and help push you toward that freedom of liking yourself again. And by the way, you can. You can like yourself. You have before.
It all comes down to the question; do you WANT that?

The God complex sucks.
It serves you no good thing. It keeps you away from freedom, it deters you from integrity, it allows you to stay compartmentalized in your thinking, and ultimately keeps you in chains.
I’m officially inviting you to freedom.
